The Yore Club

The Yore Club is not a club with ‘members.’ Everyone is welcome to attend and we charge £1 a time to cover hall costs and the speaker’s expenses. It was started by Malcolm Stonestreet 41 years ago and meetings were held once a week in the old Yorebridge School (now part of Yorebridge House Hotel). Another venue was Station Road Methodist Sunday School (now Betsy and Ian’s ground floor). Over the years many holidays were enjoyed to Ireland, Bournemouth, Kent, Devon, Cornwall and Fort William to mention a few. These days our meetings, which usually attract around 30 people (up to 40 for an outing), are held on the last Thursday of each month at Sycamore Hall at 2pm from September to June. We have talks on a range of subjects, and might dabble in crafts or play dominoes. On alternate months we have a shopping trip (to Carlisle, Kendal, Skipton etc) and have also had outings to Fountains Abbey, the Bowes Museum and Boundary Mill recently. Thursday November 29 ’Curry for Breakfast’ – Lyn Godwin talks about living and working in rural India.
