LATEST OZ IS OFF THE PRESS

Karen’s finished the marathon photocopying session and MaryRose, Edna, Heather and Margaret (Meek) have done the folding and bundling of more than 600 copies of the April/May issue of Oswald’s Outlook. It’s amazing how much goes on in our two villages (Askrigg and Bainbridge) and I never have a problem filling the eight pages. They’ll be in church at the weekend ready for collection and distribution. Hope you find it a good read. Click here to read the full issue and back numbers.

FLOWERS, BOOTS – AND BABY DAISY

Mum Miriam, and baby Daisy

Perfect timing: baby Daisy Cloughton was baptised on mum and dad’s wedding anniversary – and, appropriately, in the middle of the annual spectacular which is the St Matthew’s, Stalling Busk, flower festival. Daisy is pictured here with mum Miriam (nee Pugh) who at exactly the same time last year was married in St Matthew’s to Christopher Cloughton. Miriam, brothers Stef and Martin, sister-in-law Deborah and mum-in-law Dorothy Cloughton, all exhibited at the festival, helping to make it a staggering success. More than £1,000 was raised over the bank holiday weekend. Other exhibitors were Pat Bumby, Lesley Coates-Jones, Margaret Preston, Jane and Michael de Swiet. The theme was ‘What a Wonderful World’ and covered all aspects of the natural world: fire and ice, mountains, deserts, volcanoes, sea and beach, fossils, rainbows and sky. Below is a selection of pictures – click on any to enlarge. And to see more just click here  St Matthew’s Flower Festival.

‘THE REAL-LIFE VICAR OF DIBLEY’

Oh really? It may not be quite how we see our vicar, Ann Chapman, but that’s how she’s described in the press release for the new 12-part ITV1 series, The Dales, which started Monday 28 March at 8.00pm.
“From the Wensleydale Railway to Leyburn Brass Band and a real-life Vicar of Dibley, The Dales provides a unique insight into one of England’s most iconic locations through the eyes of the people who live there,” reads the blurb.
Ann is a central character in the new series – a follow-on from The Lakes which drew audiences of more than four million – and was filmed at various events in her four parishes last summer, including the summer party in Askrigg and the annual Semerwater service.
