Robin, Denny, Billy and Elma - remembering James and William

REMEMBRANCE Sunday had special meaning this year for two of Askrigg’s best-known couples, whose families each lost sons in the First World War. Elma and Billy Banks of The Greets, and Denny and Robin Minnitt of Seata House, saw memorial vases dedicated to William Banks and James Preston restored to St Oswald’s Church in time for the Service of Remembrance this Sunday.An appeal for silk poppies to place in the vases appeared in the last issue of Oswald’s Outlook, and a number of people responded – including a regular reader from Leyburn, Maureen Dinsdale.
