JOINT EFFORT FOR A SUPER NIGHT

There’s a double treat in store next Friday night at the White Rose. Ian Betteridge, a member of the Low Mill centre’s housekeeping team, has organised a Mexican food night followed by a quiz – first prize £25. See the poster (left) for details.
Terry Hailwood, head of the centre, says the event was Ian’s idea. “Ian wanted to donate the money raised to Low Mill to help the refurbishment fund, and the Friends [of Low Mill] wanted to help and support Ian by advertising and organising the raffle. It’s fantastic that the staff are coming up with fund-raising ideas as well,” says Terry.

GETTING TO KNOW LOW MILL

Climbing WallWant to learn more about the unique Low Mill Outdoor Centre at the west end of Askrigg? About the past year’s activities, the awards, the adventures enjoyed by youngsters who might otherwise not get the opportunity? Or perhaps about the role of the friends of Low Mill, who do so much to ensure its continued success? You can do exactly this, and enjoy a hot supper, at the centre’s annual open evening next Wednesday, 11 January. There’ll be reports from head of centre, Terry Hailwood, from the chair of the management committee and a presentation from the Friends. Everybody welcome, and there’s no charge for the supper. But as it’s a registered charity with restricted funds, a donation – though not solicited – would be very much appreciated. The evening will start at 7.00pm and end around 9.00pm. If you’d like to go please contact Sally on 650432 or email her at sally@lowmill.com

TUCK IN FOR A GOOD CAUSE

It’s great to be able to advertise events at The Crown again. This lovely pub at the heart of our village, now under the expert management of Brenda, Brian and Louise, will be the venue for the pie and pea supper on Friday 11 November in aid of the Low Mill Outdoor Centre.
So come along, bring a friend – or several – and support Low Mill and our lovely local.

Hundreds of children from all over the North of England have been able to enjoy the beauty of our village and its glorious surroundings thanks to the work of the Askrigg Foundation. It’s an organisation we hear a lot about – but how much do we really know about it and the work it does? It has its roots in the church but its work helps the whole community.  And, as you can see from the picture, it has a (very) human face (or several) Read more about the Foundation here
